Commissioning a sensor is the most fundamental use case in TraX. This article describes how to ensure you acquire sensors in the right configuration, learn how to properly mount sensors, and use the TraX mobile app to commission sensors.
Note that before it´s possible to commission sensors, the TSP must integrate the TraX sensor into its platform and build a connection between the TSP and SKF that enables efficient real-time integration between the TSP and the TraX mobile app.
Sections in this article:
- Ordering sensors in the right configuration
- Mounting and activating sensors
- Commission and decommission sensors using the TraX mobile app
The Quick start guide (PDF) is available as a complement to this article.
Ordering sensors in the right configuration
The sensor is available in three different backplates to fit different wheel sizes.
US baseplate WEM-200/USPP (US version) |
32 baseplate WEM-200/32PP (European version) |
EU baseplate WEM-200/EUPP (European version) |
Unless stated otherwise, all dimensions are given in millimeters. See Chapter 12 in TraX - WEM200 - Technical Specification Connected for the latest version of these drawings.
The wheel dimensions must be taken into consideration before purchasing the sensor.
Mounting and activating sensors
Instructions:
- Unscrew two consecutive rim nuts
- Mount the sensor so that the arrows point to the tire side.
- No special wrenches are needed for the mounting.
- IMPORTANT: Do not use air impact wrenches during the installation!
- Activate the sensor using a magnet.
Also, see the mounting instructions video.
Commission (or decommission) sensors using the TraX mobile app
Commissioning a sensor is probably the most fundamental use case in TraX, hence it makes sense for developers to have first-hand experience performing it. It is also useful because when a sensor has been commissioned (or decommissioned), it is the task of developers to mirror the action in the partner's platform.
Using the TraX mobile app:
- Use the search functionality to find a vehicle.
- Enrich the vehicle with axle information.
- Commission or decommission sensors to the vehicle's wheel ends.
See the TraX user manual for more information.
