TraX is built on top of SKF's Enlight Centre platform. The platform provides users with controlled access to resources such as partners, fleets, vehicles, and sensors.
User and access management are managed through the User Administration section of the SKF platform.
Organization of Resources and Users in the SKF Platform
The diagram below illustrates the structure and the types of resources that each of the two company types is permitted to include:
Company: TSP company
|__ Resources
| |__ Fleet A
| | |__ Vehicle A
| | |__ Vehicle B
| |__ Fleet B
| | |__ Vehicle C
| | |__ Vehicle D
| |__ Fleet C
| |__ Vehicle E
|__ Users:
|__ User I
|__ User J
———————————————————————————————————————————
Company: Non-TSP company (e.g. a fleet or 3rd party repair shop)
|__ Users:
|__ User K
|__ User L
Both company types can include users, but only the TSP Company type is allowed to contain fleets and vehicles.
Understanding the Access Control Model
TSPs that support TraX are registered as companies in the SKF platform. If a user from a fleet or a third party needs access to TraX, the company employing the user will also be registered separately.
Access to resources such as multiple fleets, individual fleets, or specific vehicles - can be granted to users within the same company or across different companies.
Example: Granting a User Access to Vehicles Managed by a TSP
In this scenario, John Doe needs to assist with commissioning TraX sensors.
John is employed by Fleet ABC, which has contracted 'TSP Company' for vehicle telematics services.
Although this example involves a user from a fleet, the principles apply equally to any non-TSP company, such as a third-party repair shop.
Step 1 - Create a Company for Fleet ABC in the SKF Platform
The TSP submits a support ticket to SKF requesting the creation of a company for Fleet ABC in the SKF platform (see Request Support).
SKF sets up the company in the SKF platform and provides the TSP's user administrators with access. This allows the TSP to manage users on behalf of Fleet ABC.
Step 2 - Create Users and Assign Access
The TSP's user administrator opens the Create User dialog and enters the necessary information about the user:
IMPORTANT: The user must be created within the company to which they belong. For example, in the screenshot above, the user will be added to a company named "TraX Fleet ABC." Note that all companies in the SKF platform are prefixed with "TraX" in the admin interface.
- Scroll down in the same dialogue to the User access section, and grant the user the role TraX: View & Edit:
- Continue by scrolling down the same dialogue to the Hierarchy Access Settings section, and expand the "TraX TSP company" to view all fleets set up for that TSP. Finally, grant the user access to the fleet "Fleet ABC":
Guidelines for Creating New Resources and Users
Creating New Companies and Fleets
Only SKF is authorized to set up new companies and/or fleets.
Creating Users and Granting Access
The TSP is responsible for creating users. If users need to be added outside of the TSP's company, the TSP’s user administrator can request access to these resources by submitting a support request to SKF.
- Development and Production Access: Accounts used for development must not be granted access to production resources, and vice versa. Development and production activities occur in the same integration environment, but isolation is maintained through dedicated accounts and resources for each activity.
- User Creation: Users must be created within their respective companies. For instance, if a TSP contracts a third-party repair shop to assist with commissioning sensors, the repair shop must be registered in SKF systems as a separate company. Users from the repair shop will be created within that company and can then be granted access to protected resources (fleets) within the TSP's company.
